Each seasonal transition, Margaret offers an auricular acupuncture circle as a potent space to encourage one season to become another within us.  They take place at The Anchor in Grant Park. The first one, winter to spring, took place on February 23rd, 2025. Now, as the year closes, she’s offering this practice in collaboration with fellow acupuncturist Chabelly Batista on November 30th to support our transition from autumn to winter. Please read all details below as you consider attending.

The components of this seasonal auricular acupuncture circle are:

~The Anchor as our gathering space - lovely, vast and meditative.  645 Grant St SE

~The NADA protocol, the gold standard auricular acupuncture treatment for trauma recovery, so supportive for recoveries and transitions of all kinds.  It also has a powerful history.

~Moxa: smouldering mugwort held close to certain acupuncture points, warming them.  This time, we’ll stimulate the points that signal winter’s emergence through autumn.

~And for this edition, the soundtrack will be living music! Deisha Oliver will improvise a musical progression from autumn through winter on cello while you receive care.

Two (60 min) seatings, at 3pm and 5pm, are offered for twenty people each time.  RSVP is necessary to attend.  To RSVP, contact Margaret at (850) 294-9934 or pointingtothemoonacupuncture@gmail.com, specifying which time you'd prefer to attend, and include any questions or concerns. Also, if you RSVP and then can no longer attend, please do contact Margaret swiftly, as there will likely be a waiting list of folks who would like to experience this offering.  You’re welcome to share this with friends; they also need to RSVP.

This is a by-donation offering.  NOTAFLOF.  All donations can be made via Venmo (@pointingtothemoon) and will be shared three ways between our venue the Anchor, our amazing musical guest Deisha Oliver and the Middle East Children’s Alliance. This will be our 4th  contribution to MECA, as we continue this commitment through the end of the year.  If you’ve found this by way of November Nights, please note that donations for Moody Acupuncture are separate from donations for November Nights; please do specify which on Venmo, thanks!

Instructions upon arrival to the sanctuary of the Anchor:   Use the front entrance please, wander in softly,  find a seat and settle into the talk-free spacious togetherness of the circle for a cozy hour.  The acupuncture and moxa will come to you in the organic sequence of arrivals.  Bring water, soft layers or even a blanket, and arrive having recently eaten.  (It takes qi to move qi.)   If needed, please use the restroom (through door at the NE corner of the sanctuary) before having needles placed in your ears.  There will be a consent form to sign (only if you’ve never received acupuncture from the acupuncturist who treats you before).

We’ll be wearing masks, but masking is optional.  This is community care, and not HIPAA protected, but we will treat you with our usual high standard of confidentiality regardless.

One caveat:  This may not be  an ideal space for trying acupuncture for the first time, if you’re nervous about needles.  You’ll want to be comfortable with the idea of pinchy ear sensations.  We’ll be tending to folks at a pace where we won’t have the amount of time we prefer to take with someone when they’re experiencing an extra brave first.   If you’re not sure after reading this, please do email me and we can think it through together, maybe even get some of the nerves out of the way beforehand.

Deisha Oliver is a multi-instrumentalist and soundscape artist. She regularly works as a studio musician and an invited performing artist in public art spaces, wellness environments and alongside dancers. Oliver's early training was with polish cellist, Kristoph Kielbasovich. For the next few years and while in college, she continued her classical training in cello as well as developed skills in operatic singing. As a form of rebellion and after getting to play Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony, she respectfully left the classical ladder, opting for Avant rock, jazz groups, and working with dancers and art galleries. As she unlearned her training, she retrained in the art of listening - enjoying the spontaneity of live performance.  Deisha currently composes and performs with her group Flight of Swallows as well as the Atlanta Improvisor's Orchestra, Musicians and Movers, and sometimes simply solo under a bridge.
